Citylights [Viennese Women]
Citylights “Viennese Women” is a series of photo portraits in public spaces around Vienna.Irene Andessner is presenting posters of staged portrait photographs in 400 ‘City Light’ display cases around the city from July 3 to September 3, 2008. As a motif for the twelve-part series of photographs the Viennese photograph- and performance-artist has selected noteworthy, legendary or almost forgotten Viennese women of the 19th and 20th centuries from the fields of science, art, politics, business and society, sympathetically interpreting and presenting them in pictorial form in order to ‘re-publish’ them in her own way.
The selected women are: Marianne Hainisch, Bertha von Suttner, Katharina Schratt, Bertha Pappenheim, Alice Schalek, Emilie Flöge, Lise Meitner, Gina Kaus, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky, Irene Harand, Hedy Lamarr
The project is supported among others by the Municipal Department for Women’s Affairs and by the Municipal Department for Cultural Affairs.
