Migrant women between concernment, participation and self-determination

22 September 2011, 8pm - 10pm
University of Basel (assembly hall)

Public evening event on occasion of the FemCities Conference

The public often perceives migrant women as oppressed victims. At the same time they have to achieve more than women without a migration background to get acknowledgment and promotion. This deficit-oriented approach sometimes also forms part of equality policies and integration programmes. Valuable potential is not unlocked but lost.

Experts from science, administration, politics and the civil society discuss what a resource-oriented approach to equality should look like to really provide migrant women with equal opportunities and involving them into the process and let them speak out for themselves instead of telling them what to do and ignoring their needs.
