secret matter:
secret matter: lifeis Austria’s first exhibition dedicated to the lives and cultures of 20th century Vienna’s gay and lesbian population. More than 500 historical objects will be on display in the adapted Neustifthalle, a 1.700 m2 industrial loft in Vienna’s 7th district. The exhibition will be divided in four chapters and in each chapter we will tell about gay and lesbian life in Vienna in the course of the 20th century.
The exhibition will be on display from October 26th 2005 through January 8th 2006 – for more than eleven weeks – and will be under the patronage of Dr. Michael Häupl, the mayor of the city of Vienna as well as Dr. Johanna Dohnal, the former federal minister for women’s issues. Loans from private collections as well as internationally well known museums guarantee an exhibition consisting of valuable original historical objects showing the mainly secret history of lesbians and gays.
