COE Calls to Reinforce Action Against Domestic Violence
The Parlamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe called on national parliaments to reinforce their action in the framework of the campaign "Stop domestic violence against women", to disseminate the information material and to set up a group of male parliamentarians committed to combating violence against women.

Towards Common Principles on Flexicurity
The European Commission's paper on common principles for flexicurity include striking the right balance between rights and responsibilities, adapting flexicurity to different national circumstances. The Women's Rights Committee, which is preparing its report, underlines the gender dimension of flexicurity. The draft will be adopted in November 2007.

Community Strategy 2007-2012 on Health and Safety at Work
The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) prepared a draft opinion on the strategy, underlining that work-related risks specific to women's safety and health have been underestimated and neglected. The opinion will be adopted in November/December 2007.

UNHCR Integrates Gender Perspective and Women's Rights into Its Progamme of Work
The UN Human Rights Council (UNHCR) has declared the need to integrate a gender perspective and women's rights, after the UN General Assembly has called on the Council to undertake actions to implement gender mainstreaming into its work.

European Institute of Gender Equality
Belgium and Germany chair the Administrative Board of the European Institute of Gender Equality. The Administrative Board comprises representatives of 18 member states and one representative from the European Commission. The Board will appoint the Director of the Institute until the end of the year.

COE Convention on Action Against Trafficking Ratified
On 24 October 2007 Cyprus deposited the 10th ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (CETS No. 197). The Concention will enter force on 1 February 2008.
