Equality?!
The subject of this new study focusing on the labour market is the situation of women in the Austrian-Hungarian border region. It traces the developments of the past ten years in western Hungary and eastern Austria from the perspective of feminism and equality. The joint team of Austrian and Hungarian authors took stock and conducted a comprehensive analysis of the social conditions and the situation in the labour markets facing women in the border region. Labour market policies were researched with a view to existing female equality approaches and the current state of equality mechanisms and institutions in the regions was investigated. The analysis covered the Györ-Moson-Sopron county and Vas and Zala on the Hungarian side, and Burgenland and the three Styrian frontier districts of Feldbach, Fürstenfeld and Hartberg on the Austrian side.
Finally the common trends in the border regions are described, differences identified and the current need for political action is ascertained.
