16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence originates from the first international compaign of the Women's Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center of Women's Global Leadership in 1991. The 16 days start on November 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10, the International Human Rights Day, to link violence against women and human rights.

The 16 days have and still are used to organise and link strategies by individuals and groups around the world to call for elimination of all forms of violence against women. Since 1991 over 2,000 organisations in approximately 154 countries have particpated in the 16 Days Campaign. Austria participates since 1992, the campaign is organised by the Austrian Women's Shelter Network.

Every year, a new campaign theme is introduced. 2007 it is: "Demanding Implementation, Challenging Obstacles: End Violence Against Women!".

People and organisations interested in joining the 16 day movement can contact the Center for Women's Global Leadership (US) or the national Austrian partner Austrian Women's Shelter Network.
