City Councillor for Women's Issues in Vienna
Cities are crucial actors in the field of women's and gender policies. Most European cities pursue a wide range of activities to promote equal opportunities between women and men within their urban agenda. For the purpose of deepening international exchange and of initiating cooperation between European cities the women’s network FemCities (former East-West Women’s Network MILENA) was launched almost 10 years ago.
It is my ambition for the network’s future to expand its activities within the entire European Union in order to contribute to efficient approaches in the field of reducing the gender pay gap, of improving women’s standing in the labour market to achieve equal opportunities, of combating violence against women as well as of supporting those most at risk, such as migrant or elderly women, in all relevant aspects of life.
It is one of my most important concerns that every woman – here in Vienna and elsewhere – can lead her own life independently and in a self-determined way.
