Protecting Women against Violence

The analytical study on the effective implementation of Rec(2002)5 on the protection of women against violence in Council of Europe member states was published by Carol Hagemann-White and Sabine Bohn from the University of Osnabrück, Germany, in 2007. The study analyses the implementation of the recommendation across Europe and takes into account the diversity of conditions in the member states and the different stages of implementation. The report focuses on main areas where action is needed in all countries: legal and policy measures, support and protection for victims, data collection, training and awareness raising. The study emphasises recent developements since the agreement on the Rec(2002)5 and tries to give examples from as many different countries as possible.
