Persefona

Persefona is a newly established NGO in Brno. Its background in the field of combating domestic violence is more then eight years old and started within the NGO “League of Human Rights”. Until June 2007 the League of Human Rights had its own program against domestic violence and after the split up this portfolio of activities and the team has not changed but been transferred to Persefona.

The core activity is counseling of victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse. Persefona provides legal, psychological and social counseling and psychotherapy in the region of South Moravia. The self-help group meets in the center once a week. Persefona also provides support and counseling by phone and e-mail. Activities in the education field are aimed at training of professionals who are important in the system of identification and detection of domestic violence e. g. medical personal, police, social workers, teachers etc.

a) to develop comprehensive activities helping persons affected by violence;
b) to expand and deepen the awareness of both the expert and broad public of the issue of all forms of violence;
c) to support and develop a multidisciplinary approach to resolving issues connected to violent behaviour;
d) to map the areas where violent behaviour occurs, and to professionally analyze them;
e) to propose and implement systemic and legislative changes;
f) to educate professional groups, students, and the public at large;
g) to take legal action in selected cases.
