Reforms for Serbia’s Own Benefit
by Igor JovanovicTanja Miscevic, 39, is an accomplished political scientist specializing in European Union affairs and the role of international organizations in contemporary development of international law. She has lectured in Serbia and abroad. She teaches at a course on EU accession policy and the history of European integration at the University of Belgrade.
Since 2001, Miscevic has directed the department of European studies of the G17 Institute in Belgrade, where she initiated and organized the first training programs for civil servants on the workings of the EU. Funded through the EU’s CARDS program, in 2003-2004 these seminars, unique in the region, provided training to 180 civil servants from both Montenegro and Serbia. The institute is linked to the G17 Plus party, a member of Serbia's coalition government.
Miscevic heads the Serbian Office for European Integration, which coordinates most of Belgrade’s activities related to the country’s relations with the EU. In October, the state union of Serbia and Montenegro officially opened talks on a Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, seen as a major step on the road to full EU membership.
