OPENING
Violence against women and children does not stop at national borders! Under the "OPENING" project, experts for women's health and protection against violence cooperated in the border region of Vienna, Brno, Györ and Burgenland in order to improve the living situation of women in the region."OPENING" aimed to intensify and institutionalize cooperation among the regional and local authorities on both sides of the EU's current external frontier. A targeted cooperation and exchange programme, it was intended to foster the exchange of experience and information and provide specifically regional specialist knowledge. At the same time, the project enabled the establishment of a close network of personal contacts between the actors in the old and new Member States, which will form an essential basis for future cooperation in the enlarged EU.
"OPENING" dealt with a variety of contents: seven thematic project modules were implemented, one of which was designed as a women's module and dedicated to the topic "Women's health as a local task – common strategies against violence towards women and children". Experts from the field of women's health and protection against violence from Vienna, Brno, Györ and Burgenland exchanged their experiences in four workshops and thus launched a basic initiative for continued long-term cooperation in the whole region. At the end of the cooperation project, which lasted some one and a half years and closed in June 2005, a manual containing a practical overview of the results was published.
The manual can be downloaded in German, Czech, Hungarian and Slovak.
